The private life and creative work of Joseph Haydn is so comprehensively portrayed in the exhibition like nowhere else. In carefully reconstructed rooms, including kitchen and bedroom, we encounter Joseph Haydn in such a variety of ways that only a few people know of. The rooms in Haydn’s former house are equipped with original furniture from Haydn’s time and modelled on the authentic living atmosphere of this era.
The original mural paintings, which have been recently uncovered in two of the rooms, are particularly impressive. In addition to original portraits of Joseph Haydn, private letters, musical notes and dedications, further notable curiosities are displayed in the exhibition such as a fortepiano by Anton Walter from 1780, a portrait medallion depicting Haydn’s wife Maria Anna Theresia and a letter written by his his mistress to their presumably mutual son.
